Volunteer
The Chapter does as much as it does because many volunteers donate generous amounts of time to making it work. We can always use another pair of hands, and some of the opportunities to help are listed here. If you're interested but don't see your perfect job, contact volunteer.opportunities@lomaprieta.sierraclub.org or fill out our online volunteer form.
Wetlands Committee Needs Grant/Proposal Writer
The Chapter's Wetlands Committee requires an experienced grant/proposal writer to develop and submit grant requests in support of wetlands education, campaigns, projects and events. Grants would be secured from Federal and State agencies as well as from the Sierra Club. This requirement exists for multiple years, and most of the activity is aligned with the beginning of the Federal and State fiscal years. Please contact Cynthia Denny at 650-520-7954 or cindyadenny@yahoo.com immediately. [Posted on Oct 24, 2009]
Wanted: Technical Mapping Help
The Chapter's Geographic Information Systems Committee is looking for someone to help in our efforts with Ebbetts Pass Forest Watch. (www.ebbettspassforestwatch.org) We need 1) Google earth "fly-over" mapping of areas that have been clearcut or are planned for clearcuts; 2) A Google Earth tour of the clear cutting devastation that we could post on YouTube to show legislators, Boards of Supervisors, etc.; and 3) an ESRI ArcGIS map of prospective tree harvest areas. If you want to help with these or other ongoing projects, contact Shawn Britton at 408-551-0722 or smbritton@comcast.net. [Posted on Oct 24, 2009]
Western Wilderness Conference Needs Housing and Gofers
The Western Wilderness Conference is coming to Berkeley from April 8 to April 11, but you can help wilderness now. Here are two opportunities. First, the Conference seeks Club members who can make space available in their homes to one (or more) visiting Conference participants. If you have an available room — or even floor space for sleeping bags — preferably in easy reach of Caltrain, BART or buses, please contact Dana Saks, dsaks@calwild.org, 510-451-1450x101.
Second, the conference needs volunteers. Be a wilderness gofer! Our food committee can use help ahead of the Conference for office work, contacting potential refreshment donors, and picking up donations. At the Conference, we need volunteers to staff the registration table, put up signs, and so on. Contact Dana Saks, dsaks@calwild.org, 510-451-1450x101. [Posted on Oct 24, 2009]
